Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Geological Survey, Geological Survey Program, and will be located at 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO 65401

As a Geologist in the Environmental Assistance Unit of the Environmental Geology Section, you will work as part of a team with internal and/or external stakeholders to provide geologic and hydrologic expertise for environmental investigations and emergencies within Missouri. As part of the team, you will support the core values of the Geological Survey Program which include technical competency, service, professionalism, ingenuity, and cooperation, as well as, help protect Missouri’s natural resources.
What you’ll do:
- Apply scientifically based geologic and hydrologic principles to review and comment on hydrogeologic reports and investigations.
- Perform geohydrologic evaluations and field investigations. To include: recognizing field evidence of depositional, karst, structural, and other geologic features; performing geologic stream classifications and collapse potential evaluations; and compiling that information into defensible reports.
- Provide oversight of drilling activities at existing or proposed solid-waste disposal areas.
- Coordinate and communicate regularly with internal partners, consultants, other government agencies, and the public.
- Respond to inquiries related to geology, hydrology, and geologic hazards in Missouri.
- Utilize ArcGIS and other computer-aided software and applications at a level required for detailed technical reviews, interpretation, evaluations relating to geology and hydrology, database maintenance, and project tracking.
- Attend internal, external, and public meetings.
All you need for success:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in geology or closely related field that includes, at a minimum, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of credit in geology including coursework required by the Missouri Board of Geologist Registration.
- AND 0-4 years of experience with field investigations and oversight of drilling activities, geologic logging of boreholes, groundwater sampling and interpretation of analytical results and monitoring well drilling techniques and construction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Missouri Registered Geologist.
- Must have a valid Missouri Driver’s License.
- Must be able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions, with some overnight travel required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with ArcGIS.
