MISSION: Optimize the health, development, education, and well-being of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers through a family-driven, equitable, community-based system of high-quality prenatal and early childhood programs and services.

The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department's aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico. That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.

Why does the job exist?

This position monitors compliance with the applicable State and Federal Regulations for all licensed child care facilities and out of school time programs in order to protect the Health, Safety and development of the children of New Mexico and ensure equal access to child care services.
How does it get done?

The purpose of this position is to monitor child care facilities and out of school time programs compliance with the applicable state and federal regulations. This is done by conducting on-site survey visits to identify any areas that could be dangerous or harmful to the children or staff members; monitor and survey out of school time programs; and encourage the establishment and maintenance of child care centers for children that provide a humane, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment. This position will also investigate incidents and complaints to determine appropriate actions timely, write reports and plan for and participate in Administrative hearings across the state. This position will provide training and technical assistance to child care providers on the applicable regulations, developmentally appropriate practices and early childhood environments in order to improve the quality of child care services in the state.

Private or public facilities that provide child care, educational services, and supervision to children of New Mexico for less than 24 hours of any day; children and families, community and internal staff/management.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
