Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden of Custody & Operations at a multi-custody female correctional facility, this position is responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Housing Unit Manager I’s. This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  1. Assuming responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit. 
  2. Providing leadership and guidance to subordinate staff and ensuring staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform their job responsibilities under a variety of conditions.    
  3. Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
  4. Managing the facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
  5. Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders. 
  6. Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations. 
  7. Responding to emergency situations such as: distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.
  8. Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband. 
  9. Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints. 
  10. Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff. 
  11. Serving on a variety of institutional committees.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC08 (Salary Range: $37,782 - $66,120). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Anson Correctional Institution
Anson Correctional Institution houses female offenders in close and medium custody housing units. Anson CI offers a wide variety of educational, vocational, and training programs. Correction Enterprises operates the offender packaging operation at Anson, a partnership with Union Supply Direct through the Prison Industry Enhancement Program (PIE). Family and friends can order a package of goods from a pre-approved shopping list to send to an offender. Orders are packaged by offenders and shipped quarterly.

Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now must meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the "Minimum Education and Experience" listed from the OSHR class specification as seen in the next section below. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) listed here in this section are now to be used as "Management Preferences" and to be used to screen for the MOST QUALIFIED pool of applicants.
 
Management Preferences

  1. Documented experience with report writing.
  2. Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques, and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
  3. Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND five years of correctional experience, two of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Our division categorizes the institutions into 3 custody levels, which include minimum, medium, and close.  The Division of Institutions has a duty to provide a secure and safe environment along with the proper care and supervision for every individual, in our custody.
