What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Professional I position at State of South Carolina?

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. 
             
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Aiken Barnwell Mental Health Center (Aiken Office) 1135 Gregg Hwy. Aiken, SC   29801.
 
Job Purpose
Coordinates Housing Programs and initiatives according to the general guidelines of the SC Department of Mental Health and the Aiken-Barnwell Mental Health Center to support the recovery of people with mental illness.

Job Functions
  1. Coordinates housing programs/initiatives at ABMHC to include but not limited to: Community Housing Program, Homeshare Program, Homeshare Respite Program, and Community Residential Care Facilites.
  2. Ensures Housing vacancies are filled in a timely manner.
  3. Communicates and networks with partners on a regular basis to grow and maintain housing partnerships.
  4. Analyzes data and prepares reports as applicable to housing programs.
  5. Provides direct services to patients and ensure patients are seen in accordance with their needs.
  6. Provide 720 patient care hours annually. 
  7. Completes documentation according to QA/SCDMH/ABMHC policies and procedures and ensures patient functionality is measured by DLA-20.
  8. Complies with Corporate Compliance and Risk Management Plan to ensure the prevention of abuse, fraud, or waste according to.
  9. Participates in clinical supervision, treatment team meetings, pursues professional development, and demonstrates effective use of social and interpersonal knowledge and skills, and demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of individual and group differences and similarities.
  10. Effectively utilizes and maintains certification of evidence-based practices. 
  11. Attends treatment meetings and provides consultation regarding complex cases as appropriate.
  12. Performs other duties as needed.
Employees will be provided routine scheduled supervision by supervisor and participate in monthly consultation groups. Additional supervision provided by psychiatrist via interdisciplinary staffing meetings. Employee is subject to SCDMH/ABMHC policies and procedures.State Requirements:
A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.

Agency Requirements:
Licensed or working toward licensure in SC.Agency (Facility) Preferences:
  • Master's degree in guidance, counseling, social work, or the social sciences and one (1) year post-graduate experience providing counseling/treatment. 
  • Must qualify for credentialing and privileging as a mental health professional in accordance with Quality Assurance standards and with concurrence by DMH Office of Quality Management.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Practical, therapeutic knowledge of principles, methods, and counseling practices and procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and mental disorders.
  • Ability to listen and understand and communicate information and ideas so that others will understand. 
  • Knowledge of psychopathology, family dynamics, family and group psychotherapy.
  • Ability to identify and effectively utilize resources available in the community to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals.
  • Employees are subject to SCDMH/ABMHC policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to lift 5 pounds and operate a state vehicle. 
  • Position is considered essential and may be called back during crises, disasters, or emergencies.

Salary : $35,360 - $65,429
