What are the responsibilities and job description for the OSHA Officer position at State of South Carolina?
Manage and coordinate the SCFC Safety Program. Administer the SCFC physical fitness program, including coordination of medical screening, providing work capacity tests, and entering data into IQS.
-Plan, direct, and monitor the implementation of the SCFC physical fitness program. Coordinate annual fitness walks, administer new employee fitness walks, provide and document medical clearance forms, document results of fitness walks and medical clearances, report results of fitness walks to the Training Manager and Human Resources.
-Develop safety procedures to ensure SCFC is in compliance with OSHA, State, and SCFC requirements. Monitor and evaluate SCFC safety needs. Serves as Chair of the Safety Committee and provides guidance and input to the committee. Coordinate and conduct accident investigations.
-Assist Training Manager in ensuring all OSHA training requirements are met. Provide assistance as an instructor for various training courses as needed. Assist with prescribed burning, mobilization of resources, and represent the agency when needed at SCEMD during activations and training exercises.
-Conduct and document routine safety inspections throughout the state. Report inspection results to the Training Manager and make recommendations to provide for a safer workplace.
-Provide assistance and support with performance of additional duties as required in support of the SC Forestry Commission's mission. A high school diploma and experience in occupational safety and health programs. A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering, or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.
Must pass the initial physical fitness test that requires a two (2) mile walk in 30 minutes carrying a 25 lb. pack or meet the agency's physical fitness program requirements. Must be able to lift (up to 50 lbs.), walk, squat, climb, and any other physical requirement of the job duties.
Must obtain firefighter registration with the Office of the State Fire Marshal; criminal background check and drug test are required.
This position is designated as safety sensitive and essential. Position is subject to pre-employment, random, postincident/accident, reasonable suspicion and rehabilitation monitoring and drug and alcohol testing consistent with SCFCDrug-Free Workplace-CDL Drug and Alcohol Testing.
SCFC work experience preferred. Under limited supervision, the incumbent uses discretion and judgment in making decisions within the program area of responsibility.
Duties may require weekend, evening work, and occasional overnight travel. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in changing environmental conditions.
Knowledge of applicable safety rules, regulations, and laws. Knowledge of occupational health and safety hazards. Knowledge of SCFC programs, policies, and procedures. Ability to respond professionally in emergency or stressful situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with associates, professionals, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
This position's assigned work location is 5500 Broad River Road, Columbia South Carolina 29212. This position has optional work offices in Newberry, Florence, and Walterboro.
