Francis Marion University invites applications for a Student Services Counselor in the Financial Assistance Office whose duties include, but are not limited to the following:
FMU Requirements: strong written and oral communication skills; ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot solutions; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; ability to interact confidently with the public and with colleagues from various offices.
FMU Preferences: previous work experience in higher education; previous work experience in a Financial Assistance office; an understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); knowledge of Federal and State Financial Aid policies; at least three years’ experience in data processing; experience with MS Office Suite; experience with Ellucian (Colleague) or similar student information system. - Counsel students regarding Financial Assistance.
- Evaluates applications for student financial aid, processes documentation as it is received and performs manual analyses of need as necessary.
- Conducts high school workshops on financial assistance.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and institutional guidelines concerning financial assistance.
- Ensures accuracy of all student records.
- Awards federal, state, and private grants, loans, and work programs within specified guidelines, ensuring updates are made to reflect issuance of aid.
- Supports the daily operation of the Financial Assistance office.
