Overview

The Vermont Department of Human Resources (DHR) is seeking a highly motivated individual who will join our team as an HR Business Partner, providing services and support to Vermont Veterans' Home (VVH) management, supervisors, and employees.

This position will be responsible for :

  • Administering and maintaining background checks
  • Providing information and orientation to new employees and guidance on various HR topics to VVH management, supervisors and employees
  • Calculating pay and working with DHR divisions regarding required updates and / or requests relating to employee and position data changes in the VTHR (PeopleSoft) system consistent with applicable Personnel Policies, Procedures, and Collective Bargaining Agreements.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment. In addition, possessing strong organizational skills required to coordinate and process a large volume of work and operational functions are vital. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver accurate and timely work are key to success in this position. Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required.

The position is scheduled to work at the Vermont Veterans' Home in Bennington Monday through Friday, from 7 : 45 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m. The duties are performed largely in a standard office setting with the majority of the work being completed using various databases and Microsoft Office 365 applications and the remainder of the work involving working with employees, managing phone calls, collaborating with colleagues, and / or attending meetings. Some work outside of regular schedule may be required.

    Because this position supports the Vermont Veterans' Home, any person who has had a charge of abuse, neglect or exploitation substantiated against him or her is not eligible under the Vermont Veterans' Home licensing requirements. Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including Vermont and national criminal record checks, adult and child abuse registry checks, the Office of Inspector General exclusion database, and motor vehicle driving record checks where applicable.

    Environmental Factors

    Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Some work outside of regular work schedule may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered in dealing with employee grievances, union representatives, or members of management.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Three (3) years or more of experience in the field of human resources that includes employee relations or labor relations.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.

    Supervisory experience.

    Labor Relations experience.

    Familiarity with working in a union environment and / or experience working in human resources for a senior living, long-term care, or healthcare setting.
