Overview
The Military Maintenance Specialist II position is responsible for maintenance work and contractor oversight for the Vermont Military Department. Duties include engaging in multiple trades including, but not limited to, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, heating, and other maintenance related tasks at military facilities. Incumbent will also maintain the grounds, roads and training areas requiring snow removal in the winter months. The position may be responsible for operating heavy equipment, including loaders, excavators, dozers and heavy trucks equipped with plows and wings. Candidates should have considerable knowledge of various trades, in addition to safety procedures required when preforming construction and repair of facilities.

Special Requirements: Incumbents of this job are issued a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC), which is issued only upon passing a federal background check (Tier 1) including a fingerprint-supported criminal record check. Candidates must obtain the CAC for successful completion of original probation. Possession of the CAC is a condition of employment. Additionally, Incumbents of this job may be required to view and access classified information, therefore a favorably adjudicated (Tier 3) Secret Clearance may be required.
Environmental Factors
Work is performed at military facilities in Vermont. An incumbent often works near or with hazardous materials, including ammunition. Work requires entering confined spaces, removing snow on runways, and exposure to loud noises. An incumbent operates heavy equipment, and possession of a Commercial Driver's License is required within six months of hire. Since work is performed at a military installation, an incumbent must be eligible to obtain and hold a secret security clearance issued by the federal government. An incumbent must be able to climb ladders and lift equipment and materials weighing as much as sixty pounds. Work is performed in all kinds of weather. Some work outside of normal working hours may be required, including travel and overnight stay.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent AND five (5) or more years of work experience in building construction and renovation or in the following trades: electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, or carpentry.

Note: Applicants must be eligible to receive and maintain Federal secret security clearance.

Note: Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required within six (6) months of employment.
