The Department of Revenue's (DOR) Property Tax Division is looking for a dynamic individual to fill a Property and Acquisition Specialist 4 (PAS4) vacancy in Tumwater, WA. This team is dedicated to the management of property taxation effecting the state and local levels while providing advice, instruction, and training to all customers.

As a County Review Auditor (PAS4), you will provide support to county officials relating to the performance and compliance of property tax laws for all programs assigned to County Performance and Administration. Your initial focus will be the Current Use and Designated Forestland programs. You will also review and audit county property tax operations and programs while providing technical assistance to county staff, taxing districts, taxpayers and other stakeholders. Assigned areas may include revaluation, assessment appeals, current use and designated forest land, and levies. Here are some of your other responsibilities:
  • Administer statewide audit and review programs to ensure compliance with state laws and rules regarding administration of Current Use and Designated Forest Land programs, assessment appeals, and levies.
  • Compose determination reports, recommendations and follow up correspondence regarding areas of non-compliance with state laws and rules.
  • Analyze and report individual county property tax procedure and practice effectiveness.
  • Act as a backup for property tax program specialists by providing general advice and guidance to customers.
Here is how to qualify

Five years or more professional experience in any of the following:
  • Providing technical expertise on federal, state, or local programs.
  • Local government appeals.
  • Administrative appeals.
  • Appraising real and/or personal property.
  • Auditing and/or accounting.
  • A related business field such as selling, leasing, or buying real estate, or property management.

Note- Your above professional experience must include one of the following:
  • Administering federal, state, or local laws and administrative rules.
  • Public speaking and/or providing training.
  • Proficiency in determining market value (for real and/or personal property).
  • Competence in property taxation and valuation procedures.
 
OR
 
Two (2) years of qualifying professional experience, as mentioned above, acquired in city, county and/or state government.
 
Successful candidates must also possess:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft products such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Preference will be given to those that possess the below qualifications
A Bachelor's degree involving major study in business or public administration, finance, real estate, economics, accounting, political science or related field
 
AND
 
Experience in business activities such as accounting, auditing, buying/selling/leasing real estate, or appraising real and/or personal property.
 
OR
 
One year of experience as a Property & Acquisition Specialist 3.
