The successful hire will be offered a starting salary within the range of $69,072-$80,112. Those hired for this opportunity are entitled to an additional 5% assignment pay in addition to the advertised salary. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.
We have opportunities in the specialized areas below:
Specialty #1: Western State Hospital (WSH). This WSH Dietitian will focus their time on the general adult population in the in-patient forensic psychology wards. This position works with adults throughout their lifecycle, ages 18 . Primary services include completing comprehensive nutrition assessments on patients, working with multiple interdisciplinary teams, treating patients with a variety of short- and long-term disease states as well as working with adults to foster general healthy lifestyle habits.
Specialty #2: Child Study Treatment Center (CSTC) Unit. This WSH Dietitian covers the CSTC units as well as provides coverage for the general adult population of WSH as needed. CSTC is the only state-operated and funded psychiatric hospital for children and youth ages 5-17 who have psychological and safety needs that cannot be met in their communities. Primary services to CSTC include completing comprehensive nutrition assessments for patients ages 5-17, facilitating classes or groups as needed, working with the interdisciplinary team, and helping to manage, guide and direct the National School Breakfast and Lunch program.

Registered Dietitian status: 24 months of recent full-time experience as an RDN

Some of what you will do:
- Assess nutrition status and provide care using the Nutrition Care Process for our diverse psychiatric patient population
- Recommend appropriate interventions including therapeutic diet orders, oral supplements, and enteral nutrition orders
- Monitor patient response to interventions and individual progress
- Evaluate and monitor nutritional status and update plan of care
- Design and provide nutrition education to patients individually and in group settings
- Promote optimal patient health at the individual patient level and hospital-wide
- Participate in the planning of nutritionally adequate menus
- Conduct peer chart reviews and provide feedback to the supervisor
- Participate in department meetings and communicate with the care team and peers
- Help mediate food services for patient care
- Help facilitate community nutrition inpatient areas
What we're looking for:
- Knowledge of principles of medical nutrition therapy
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge via continuing education and current dietitian credentials
- Knowledge of computer software, information systems, networks, and platforms
- Skills in working with confidential client information
- Ability to instruct others
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work under stressful conditions
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with food service teams
