Salary: $4,632 - $6,227 Monthly. The salary does not include an additional 5% premium pay for employees working in King County or an on-site 24/7 facility 5% premium.

The Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) is accepting applications for Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselors (JRC2) to join our team to provide developmentally appropriate, trauma informed, racial equity-based and culturally relevant comprehensive case management, transition planning, and counseling and treatment services for an assigned caseload and their families within the context of Juvenile Rehabilitation’s (JR) integrated Treatment Model.

The Opportunity:
As a Juvenile Rehabilitation Residential Counselor (JRC2) at Echo Glen Children’s Center, you will provide comprehensive case management, transition planning, counseling, and treatment referral services for an assigned caseload of youth committed to Rehabilitation Administration care by the juvenile courts. Our objective is to maintain a secure, therapeutic environment that provides youth with the information, skills, and motivation to succeed outside the Institution and remain free from future incarceration.
Some of what you will get to do:
- Provide mental health treatment and supervision interventions to youth committed to Rehabilitation Administration care by the juvenile courts and who have a complex range of disorders and service needs.
- Interview and administer/interpret screening tools and assessments, assess behavior, prioritize treatment targets, develop treatment plans, and implement Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other therapeutic treatment interventions.
- Facilitate various groups and activities and prepare youth and their families for transition back to the community.
- Perform routine security duties.
- Supervise and/or serve meals to resident groups.
- Monitor the movement of residents within the facility and in the community.
- Supervise and assign chores within a living unit to meet health and hygiene standards.
Required qualifications:
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, or relevant experience totaling five years.
OR
One year as a Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor 1 or Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor
Assistant.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree, AND one year of professional experience in casework, counseling, probation and parole, social services, planning, directing, and/or facilitating youth group activities or experience in a related field.
Degree must be obtained from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or foreign equivalent verified by a NACES-approved organization at naces.org.
Foreign Equivalency certification must be attached to the application for degrees obtained outside the U.S. Incomplete applications may be screened out of the recruitment process.
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
- Treatment and intervention principles and practices.
- Ability to relate to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups.
- Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences related to juvenile delinquency.
- Adolescent development and juvenile rehabilitation practices and principles.
- Providing cognitive/behavior therapeutic interventions.
- Basic juvenile correctional system, and rehabilitation objectives in juvenile institutions, basic interviewing and counseling theories and techniques, basic concepts, fundamentals and principles of individual and group behaviors, introductory psychology of deviant behavior and crisis intervention methods and techniques.
- Supervision and lead techniques.
- Ability to obtain pertinent information during interviews, assist in rehabilitation of juvenile offenders, implement counseling techniques, apply rules, regulations and procedures, appraise situations and remain calm and in control in crisis situations and de-escalation situations.
- Ability to speak and write clearly establish and maintain effective working.
