Here is your chance to get your foot in the door as a state worker! We are very excited to announce an open on-call position for a Custodian 1, here at the historic Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, Washington!
*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star families.

Some of what you'll be doing includes:- Cleaning assigned areas, resident rooms, common areas, and office spaces.
- Vacuuming and extracting carpets as needed.
- Mopping, disinfecting and waxing floors; sweeping and mopping stairwells.
- Emptying trash and performing a variety of housekeeping tasks.
- Maintaining clean and sanitary restrooms; ensuring supplies are adequately stocked.
- Cleaning and shampooing upholstered furniture.
- Maintaining lobby area floors and carpets
- Maintaining custodial carts, closets and equipment rooms; restocking with supplies and equipment.
- Assisting nursing and food service staff with cleaning table tops after each meal.
- Must be able to frequently stand, walk, reach, kneel, squat, bend, stoop, climb stairs, lift and carry; able to push a custodial cart weighing up to 60 lbs.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Experience in housekeeping, janitorial, building maintenance, or custodial work in a healthcare facility, hospital or nursing home.
- Valid Driver's License.

Other Information:
- Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Must pass tuberculosis testing annually.
- Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training and use of respiratory protection as required by the WA Industrial Safety & Act standards.
- This position is represented by the WA Federation of State Employees (WFSE).
