Collections Supervisor – Collections – Full Time

What To Expect As An Collections Supervisor

• Supervise, train, and evaluate healthcare collections staff
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Develop and maintain collections policies, workflows, and escalation protocols.
• Prepare and present collections and AR performance for team and leadership.
• Support audits, payer reviews, and regulatory inquiries.
• Researches, identifies and rectifies any special circumstances affecting delayed payment of accounts.
• Works closely with patients to assist with billing questions or concerns. Assists patient who voice concerns with paying balance with options available for paying accounts.
• Reviews self-pay accounts for necessary collection letters. Ensures patients receive four statements and one final notice letter prior to review for bad debt.
• Updates and maintains the Service Recovery report and distributes to appropriate parties each month.
• Supervises the accurate reporting of bad debt and cost reporting items. Transfer accounts to appropriate “Agency”. Submits cost reports to administration by the monthly deadline.
• Establishes and monitors payment arrangements with patients, collects delinquent accounts and identifies uncollectible accounts to be turned over to collections or to legal.
• Supervises the processing of Financial Assistance applications.
• Obtains financial statements for charity write-offs and maintains files for bankruptcy accounts.
• Prepares delinquent accounts for collections for legal cases and patient accounts. Works with collection agency(s) to answer questions and provide necessary requested information/documentation.
• Represents SGCMH in court appearances related to credit and legal matters.
• Assists in formulation of the hospital’s Credit and Collection Policy.
• Stay current on payer rules, reimbursement policies, and industry best practices.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Revenue Cycle Director.
  
  

Requirements

Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with patients regarding billing issues.
• Excellent leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive financial decisions with professionalism and empathy.
• Strong knowledge of insurance follow-up, patient collections, and AR management.
• Familiarity with healthcare reimbursement methodologies and payer contracts.
• Proficiency with EHR, billing, and collections systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
• 2-3 years previous experience in a medical setting.
