We are looking for a full time, DOULA (40 hours) in our Family Services Department.
A Doula:
· Assists families in initiating and strengthening the parent-child relationship
· Provides information, education and resources that will prepare the mother and her family for the birthing process
· Attends to and supports the laboring mother and her family or support person(s)
· Assists parents in optimizing the bonding and attachment process
· Aids in strengthening the family’s support system
· Increases the family’s ability to problem solve and advocate for themselves and their children, especially during the birthing process
· Communicates and coordinates with team members
· Attends staff meetings as required
· Shares insight regarding family needs, identifies and implements workable solutions
· Documents all necessary information in the client record according to established protocols
· Conducts outreach and community education activities
· Assists families in establishing goals and a birth plan
· Assists family via home visiting, physician appointments and group-based activities
· Identifies needs and refer families to additional community resources
· Facilitates prenatal group education
· Serves as back-up to fellow doula
· Demonstrates the ability to climb stairs and lift up to 30 pounds
· Attends weekly reflective supervision meetings with Team Lead
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
· Associate’s Degree preferred in early Childhood Education or health-related field preferred: OR Previous parenting education or home visiting program experience
· Completion of all Doula required training
· Maturity and experience in successfully working with infants, young children, and their parents
ALSO REQUIRED:
· A current Illinois driver’s license; AND
· Personal vehicle for use in carrying out required duties; AND
· Auto liability insurance; AND
· Must live within 1 hour driving distance from FHN or SSM Hospitals
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
· Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication and active listening skills
· Ability to work with culturally diverse families in a non-judgmental way and to demonstrate sensitivity to their issues
· Willing and able to work flexible hours, some evenings and weekend hours as necessary; must be on-call 24/7 to participate with families (every other weekend off)
· Ability to maintain client confidentiality
· Ability to develop a close, trusting and supportive relationship with parents and families
· Knowledge in personal computer use
· Ability to identify family strengths
· Demonstrates teaching, coaching, mentoring, and role-modeling skills
· Exhibits ability to be empathetic, and provide comfort through touch, words and actions
· Willing to make a long-term commitment (at least 2 years) to the program and its families/clients
· Strong commitment and ability to work as part of a team
· Has physical and mental health sufficient to meet the demands of the position
Job Type: Full-time (40 hours)
