What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Cook position at STORY COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER?

Located in Nevada, Iowa, our Medical Center delivers high quality healthcare in a community-oriented manner in more than two dozen services and specialties.
As a Lead Cook you will:
- Cross-train in all positions of department and be responsible for covering any open slots in the schedule.
- Responsible for maintaining the amount of food produced based on forecasted demand during peak and non-peak service times.
- Ensure daily communication between shifts regarding items that require additional cooking times and prep required for upcoming meals.
- Understand food labeling procedures and ensure all product is labeled and stored correctly for the appropriate length of time and follow all food safety standards.
- Must know methods of food preparation, cooking times, and portion sizes to ensure food is prepared in accordance with the recipe.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary workstation, equipment and utensils.
- Ensure servers understand the correct portions when cutting, preparing, and serving in relations to pricing.
- Communicate with leadership regarding food product that needs to be ordered for upcoming production plans.
- Responsible for directing the kitchen staff, monitoring their performance, and giving appropriate feedback in regard to timing and preparation of food items.
- Provide feedback to leadership regarding staff performance to complete performance evaluation process.
- Consult with leadership about employee relations or staff scheduling issues.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- High school education or equivalent desirable, but must be able to read, write, and follow oral and written directions
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the food service industry and/or Culinary Training
- Must have some knowledge of foods and methods of preparation, also ability to plan work in order to meet established deadlines
- Successful completion of ServSafe within 90 days of start date
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Experience cooking in a health care facility preferred
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Effective time management skills
- Excellent customer service
