What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planning Intern position at Story County?
This position provides intermediate technical work reviewing, researching, and conducting field reviews on development case applications, work program items, zoning permit applications, and inquiries from the general public. Planning interns assist Planners and Planning Director with preparation of staff reports, memos, property research reports, powerpoint presentations, and may present information to Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Board of Supervisors, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Planner and Planning and Development Director.

- Assists planner with property research reviews, written findings, and research.
- Assists planner with zoning permit application review.
- Assists planner with inquiries relating to specific properties.
Education and Experience
Pursuing bachelor's degree with coursework in Community and Regional Planning or minimum two semesters of college working toward a degree in Planning, or related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of zoning ordinances, C2C plan, GIS, Beacon, Code of Iowa; general knowledge of staff reports, memos, property research reports, powerpoint presentations, spreadsheets, letters; general knowledge of standard office equipment, standard office software, measuring wheel - site reviews; ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other department staff, and the public.

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
