SRI seeks committed and passionate MFH State Coordinators to provide critical services to military members, Department of the Army civilians, and their Families.

Overview: The Army National Guard (ARNG) MFH program renders professional military funeral honors, in accordance with service tradition, to all eligible veterans when requested by an authorized family member. The MFH program has developed a comprehensive network within communities which quickly responds to the needs of deceased Service members and their Families. Our goal is to reassure Survivors that they remain valued members of the Army Family.

The Army National Guard (ARNG) is a geographically dispersed force whose members do not have the benefit of installation-based support for MFH and caring for survivors of our fallen heroes. The need to provide MFH to geographically dispersed service members and Families is ongoing and increases during periods of mobilization, active service, and state call-ups.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide general planning, coordination, and budget analysis to the State/Territory Military Authority.
  • Maintain access, conduct reviews, identify trends, and analyze Veteran and MFH related State data to identify needs and properly guide, advise, and recommend actions related to the MFH program.
  • Coordinate, plan, and develop statewide operations for the MFH Program. Draft, review, advise, and recommend on MFH Program policies, SOPs, and objectives in coordination with the ARNG Program Manager and/or State/Territory Military Authority.
  • Establish a single point of contact for their State in reference to MFH requested support. Maintain a capability to respond to requests within a 24-hour timeframe.
  • Ensure missions conducted, supported, and non-supported are tracked and recorded in the MFH database. Establish systems and databases to identify/track the level of support and fiscal cost associated with each MFH ceremony provided.
  • Coordinate, advise, recommend and guide an active recruiting and retention program for the State/Territory MFH program. Actively implement this to maintained trained and certified personnel to support MFH requests.
  • Assist and oversee the department training of programs and exercises related to the performance of State Honor Guard ceremonies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the Honor Guard performance and provide recommendations to the State Military Authority for conformance with all NGB / National Guidelines and regulations relating to MFH and improvement of service. Objective is to observe 5% or more of monthly missions.
  • Ensure that Veterans and Service Members IAW State and Federal law receive honors.
  • Assists in developing and managing the annual budget for the MFH program.
  • Develop budget requirements specific to their state; assist and coordinate recommendations regarding budget management for the state to remain compliant with all applicable National and State funding guidelines.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain rapport with mutually supporting outside agencies; to include, Army Installation CACs, other Branches of Service CACs, Veteran Service Organizations, funeral homes, and cemeteries.
  • Coordinate with and ensure all AP3 guidelines are followed for Veteran Service Organizations (VSO) and provides complete quality control of pay allowances, reimbursement, and stipends as required for VSO and National Guard member participation for State Military Authority approval and submission.
  • Verify that all data inputted into the MFH Database is 100% accurate and complete. Verify and oversee the processing of payroll and travel claims are accurate, valid and conducted in a timely manner in support of the Military Authority.

MFH Training will consist of the following:

  • Eligibility requirements.
  • Setting up the squad/drill team.
  • Graveside services for casketed and cremated remains.
  • Firing of the volley (if firing party is present).
  • Bugler or proper use of the ceremonial bugle (or high quality CD of Taps).
  • Folding and presenting the flag.
  • AP3 certification training will meet sequence and functional elements.
  • Training Records: State Coordinator will maintain training records on all Funeral Detail personnel.
  • Area Coordinators will coordinate with the MFH State Coordinator and/or NCOIC to obtain a copy of the updated MFH training video, training flags, training certificates, and lapel pins for VSOs.

Required Skills, Education, Experience, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma required.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Broad-based knowledge, experience, and skills in the areas of MFH, military personnel, as well as an understanding of the ARNG.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of internet interaction, use of government’s databases, reports preparation, regulation interpretation and report analysis.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Possess a current and valid state driver’s license.
  • Be a self-starter and be able to execute responsibilities with minimum oversight.
  • Ability to plan and organize work activities to achieve established program objectives goals.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English proficiently.
  • Be a US Citizen.
