Job Description:
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing student and staff recreational programs at the FLETC Charleston Complex. This position involves coordinating sports tournaments, indoor and outdoor activities, and community engagement efforts. The Recreation Specialist will work closely with students to enhance morale, physical fitness, and team-building through various recreational opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement recreational programs for students and staff, ensuring a variety of engaging indoor and outdoor activities.
- Organize weekly tournaments (volleyball, basketball, softball, racquetball, golf, running, tennis) with proper judging, officiating, and awards.
- Coordinate and oversee monthly off-site events, ensuring all logistics (transportation, venue booking) are handled.
- Conduct student engagement surveys (minimum 10 per week) to assess interest in new activities and report findings to the COR.
- Collaborate with the FLETC Employee Recreation Association to secure funding and resources for recreational activities.
- Market recreation programs using flyers, PowerPoint presentations, and student engagement booths.
- Recruit volunteers, interns, and staff to support various recreational activities.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on recreational equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
- Submit a monthly recreation program report detailing event participation, challenges, and planned activities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-year degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in planning and executing recreational programs.
- Strong knowledge of sports rules, officiating, and organizing tournaments.
- Certified in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR (must remain current for the duration of employment).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office for creating marketing materials and tracking program participation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage students and promote activities.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedules.
