Role: Pipeline Operator
Responsibilities: The Pipeline Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of pipeline systems. This role supports organizational goals by ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, asset integrity, and continuous improvement across all pipeline activities.
1. Safety & Operational Excellence
- Safely perform all assigned job duties in accordance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Actively participate in safety meetings, job safety analyses (JSAs), and hazard identification
- Promote a strong safety culture and stop work when unsafe conditions are identified
2. Pipeline Operations & Qualifications
- Perform core pipeline operations in accordance with established qualifications and certifications
- Operate, monitor, and control pipeline systems, valves, pumps, compressors, and related equipment
- Maintain situational awareness of system pressures, flows, and operating limits
3. Measurement, Sampling & Proving
- Perform accurate measurement, sampling, and proving activities
- Ensure custody transfer accuracy and compliance with measurement standards
- Maintain calibration and verification records for measurement equipment
4. Troubleshooting & Emergency Response
- Identify abnormal operating conditions and troubleshoot system issues
- Respond effectively to alarms, incidents, leaks, and emergency situations
- Participate in emergency drills and real-time incident response as required
5. Damage Prevention & Regulatory Compliance
- Support damage prevention programs including one-call participation and right-of-way monitoring
- Ensure compliance with PHMSA, DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations
- Report near misses, incidents, and non-compliance events promptly
6. Contractor Management, Permitting & Security
- Coordinate contractor activities to ensure safe and compliant execution of work
- Verify permits, lockout/tagout, confined space, and hot work requirements
- Maintain site security and report unauthorized access or security concerns
7. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with control centers, field personnel, maintenance, engineering, and management
- Communicate operational changes, outages, and abnormal conditions clearly and timely
- Serve as a point of contact during field operations and incident response
8. Reporting & Documentation
- Complete accurate operational logs, reports, and regulatory documentation
- Maintain records for inspections, maintenance, and compliance activities
- Utilize company systems to track operational data and work activities
9. Project Support
- Support capital and maintenance projects including startups, shutdowns, and commissioning
- Provide field input and operational expertise during project execution
- Ensure projects align with operational and safety standards
10. Training & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain required training, certifications, and operator qualifications
- Participate in audits, assessments, and improvement initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, safety, reliability, and efficiency
11. On-Call & After-Hours Coverage
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours operational needs
- Provide emergency response support outside normal working hours
- Maintain readiness to support system reliability at all times
