What are the responsibilities and job description for the SpEd Guest Teacher position at Summitview Child & Family?

STATEMENT OF THE JOB:

 

Under the direct supervision of the Learning Coach Supervisor, with the Director of Education’s management, the Guest Special Education Teacher, implements and maintains a special education classroom in accordance with their certification and always in regulation with the education codes established by the California State Department of Education.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow the California Department of Education State standards and requirements.  
  • Responsible for overseeing curriculum provided by the classroom teacher.  
  • Implements the students’ Individual Education Plans provided by the teacher (I.E.P.).  
  • Manages appropriate school behavior with support from Learning Coaches.  
  • Adheres to and enforces all policies and rules governing student behavior using Nurtured Heart, TCI, and other educator training skills.  
  • Effectively and professionally communicates with students and staff.  
  • Appropriately utilizes assigned classroom Learning Coaches to support classroom and student needs. 
  • Provides input on student credit sheets.  
  • Other reasonable tasks as assigned.

 

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

  • Follows agency policy for crisis intervention and management skills.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures including, but not limited to, HIPAA, PHI, Mandated Reporter Status & Procedures, Professional Relationships with Youth & Non-Minor Dependents, and all other Federal and State laws.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Practices good judgement and has ability to take initiative.
  • Completes assigned program operational tasks in accordance with supervisory directives.
  • Effectively communicates with residential and management staff.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality is essential for role; with notice to supervisor of planned and unplanned absences in a timely manner.
  • Sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Works cooperatively with others in a team-oriented manner.
  • Provides and practices trauma-informed care services and modalities with actively using empathy and understanding in treatment of individuals.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s License; personal automobile liability insurance; and a driving record acceptable to Summitview’s insurance carrier.
  • Must be willing to present a recent negative Tuberculosis test or be willing to take one. 
  • COVID-19 vaccination inclusive of booster doses are encouraged but not required.
  • Must be willing to complete and pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) personal background investigation to meet the requirements of the California Department of Education.

  • To talk or hear.

  • Is occasionally required to climb or balance.   
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Current Emergency Credential issued by the California Department of Education.
  • Previous experience working in a classroom environment or working directly with Special Education students preferred.
  • Previous experience working with youth with complex mental health behaviors preferred.

 

OTHER:

  • Employment is on an as-needed basis.
  • Position is a per diem role and is not benefit eligible.
