Reports To: Sr. Director of Mountain Operations

Rate of Pay: $31.00-$35.00/hour DOE

Shift: 7-days a week. Must be available during Holidays.

FLSA Status: Hourly/Nonexempt

Summary: The Mountain Equipment Maintenance Lead will work closely with the Director of Mountain Maintenance and the Sr. Director of Mountain Operations to ensure all grooming and snowmaking equipment is maintained and in good working order. Additionally, the Mountain Equipment Maintenance Lead will oversee the maintenance and repair of all wheeled and tracked vehicles to include, snowmobiles, side by sides, trucks etc. The Mountain Equipment Maintenance Lead will play an important role in general Mountain Maintenance and work closely with the Snowmaking, Grooming, Lift Maintenance and Lift Operations teams at the direction of the Sr. Director of Mountain Operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Grooming and Snowmaking Managers to ensure regular maintenance and repair of snowcats, snowmaking equipment (fan guns, wands, compressors, pumps, hoses, drives), and related machinery.
• Operate all equipment you are responsible for maintaining.
• Build and manage detailed maintenance schedules (weekly to annual) for all equipment.
• Oversee maintenance technicians, inspect work, and manage workflow and training.
• Assist with grooming and snow removal; take ownership of grooming quality and its impact on guest experience.
• Develop and manage annual R&M and equipment budgets with the Sr. Director of Mountain Operations; manage to approved budget; track and report monthly.
• Maintain training programs for Mountain Operations staff; document and ensure proper equipment use.
• Oversee equipment & vehicle training programs for all Mountain Operations staff.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines and ensure safety protocols are followed in all maintenance tasks.
• Keep accurate maintenance logs and ensure organization and cleanliness of the maintenance shop and office space.
• Manage tool inventory, replacements, and repairs; ensure all tools are appropriate and available.
• Build a library of manuals and manufacturer data for easy access to repair information.
• Coordinate with other departments (Lifts, Ski Patrol, Bearclaw) and external partners (AT&T, UDOT, Rocky Mountain Power) through the Safety Office.
• Collaborate with Ski Patrol on Snow Safety issues.
• Decide between in-house and outsourced repairs based on cost, efficiency, and capability.
• Maintain vendor relationships to secure competitive pricing and priority service.
• Support mountain development projects by sourcing materials and overseeing outside contractors.
• Proactively report any issues or hazards encountered on the mountain.
• Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to departmental planning and success.
• Handle hazardous materials safely and act as a responsible steward of the mountain environment.
• Supervise the mountain maintenance team, including hiring, scheduling, training, and performance management while serving as a role model leader

Job Requirements

• Must meet essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Associate degree or 3–5 years of experience as a lift mechanic (fixed and detachable lifts), or equivalent education/experience.
• Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, internet use, email, and 2-way radio communication.
• Valid U.S. driver's license in good standing.
• Must be 21 years or older.
• Physically demanding role: frequent standing, walking, climbing, lifting (up to 70 lbs regularly; 100 lbs occasionally), and full range of vision required.
  
  

Work Environment: Regular exposure to moving machinery and outdoor weather; frequent work at heights and around fumes, chemicals, and vibration; occasional risk of electrical shock. Noise level is typically loud.
