What are the responsibilities and job description for the P-TECH Career Coach (Part-Time, Grant-Funded) - SUNY Orange position at SUNY Orange?
The Pathways of Technology (P-TECH) program at SUNY Orange is currently seeking a part-time Career Coach to join their team. This position will offer 10-15 hours per week.
Reporting to the Coordinator of P-TECH, the P-TECH Career Coach will foster an environment that prepares students to develop a career path and professional skills, advise students during their internship experience, and assist students in developing an actionable employment plan post-graduation. Through self-assessment, thoughtful career exploration and programming, and the implementation of a career plan, the P-TECH Career Coach will help prepare P-TECH students with the professional skills needed to identify meaningful career paths. The P-TECH Career Coach will facilitate co-curricular, and career student success initiatives.
This position will work collaboratively with the Newburgh Free Academy P-TECH staff and faculty and will also develop strong collaborative relationships with the staff of our corporate sponsor, IBM.
Travel between buildings on campus and other sites will be required, as needed.
Job Requirements:
Education Required: Bachelor's degree
Experience Required: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in career services, job placement, advising or related area. Knowledge of STEM fields. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs that support career development and employment readiness for students.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
- Knowledge of the P-TECH program.
- Experience working in a community college setting.
- Experience working with at-risk and under-represented student populations.
- Knowledge of current best practices in the job search process, job market trends, and local employment opportunities/demands.
- Language Skills: Conversational Spanish speaking skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multiple constituents.
- Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful relationships with community organizations and industries.
