Purpose Statement


The job of Custodial Evening Supervisor is done for the purpose/s of supervising custodial services and
activities in the evening; overseeing assigned personnel; and providing information to others.


This job reports to Custodial Manager.  Hours will be primarily 1:30 - 10:00 p.m. but there will be occasions when a shift would both start and end at different times in order to work with personnel on 3rd shift.


Essential Functions

 

  • Coordinates with Custodial Manager and other district personnel for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
  • Communicates decisions for the purpose of identifying appropriate actions, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a District representative.
  • Inspects custodial work for the purpose of ensuring site safety, maintaining cleaning standards, organizing and scheduling needed maintenance.
  • Maintains custodial equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Implements a preventive maintenance program for all district facilities and equipment for the purpose of ensuring organizational objectives are achieved in the most efficient and timely manner.
  • Monitors conditions related to employee and patron safety and reports unsafe conditions to appropriate District personnel.
  • Contributes to the managment of the workload of the department for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting operational requirements.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and gathering information regarding a wide variety of subjects required to carry out their administrative responsibilities.
  • Documents activities for the purpose of providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Monitors equipment and materials for the purpose of recommending and assisting in the selection of supplies and equipment to be stocked in the district warehouse for use by custodial staff and for general custodial purposes.
  • Researches information as needed for the purpose of implementing programs/services, ensuring compliance with relevant requirements, securing general information for planning, taking appropriate actions, and/or responding to requests.
  • Responds to emergencies for the purpose of determining and implementing appropriate actions required to resolve situations.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities


SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet
changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
include: operating standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications; managing projects; managing personnel; and developing effective working relationships.


KNOWLEDGE is required to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, participate in group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: personnel processes; pertinent policies, regulations and/or laws; education code; and equipment maintenance.


ABILITY is required to with with activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and consider a variety
of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of
circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of
standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data;
and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and offer solutions.
Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with
equipment is significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
include: communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a
team; dealing with frequent interruptions and changing priorities; and maintaining confidentiality.


Work Environment


The successful candidate will have to pass a Physical Capacity Profile (PCP) test.  The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:  lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 45% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.


Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
