Syracuse Stage, the professional theatre in residence at Syracuse University, is accepting applications for Run Crew members for stagehands and wardrobe positions for our upcoming production of The National Pastime.

Targeted Date(s) of Employment: June 4, 2025 – June 29, 2025 with potential for earlier start date for some positions; the schedule for rehearsals and performances will involve afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
Salary/Wage: $16.00 per hour, non-exempt (overtime eligible)
General Job Description:
Reporting to the show’s Stage Manager and Production Assistant(s), Run Crew members provide backstage support for Syracuse Stage productions in areas of scenery, properties, costumes, and other departments. Specific duties of Run Crew members will depend on which area they are assigned to.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Observe a rehearsal of the production at a date designated by the Stage Manager (to be discussed at the time of interview).
- Participate in relevant training (paid) in preparation for participation in technical rehearsals.
- Prior to rehearsals and performances, participate in preshow preparations that may include: sweeping and mopping of the stage space, setting stage props and scenery pieces in their initial places backstage and onstage, equipment checks, setting and inventorying costumes.
- During rehearsals and performances, perform the following duties that may include (but are not limited to): moving props and scenic items onstage and backstage as directed by stage management, operate scenery that is flown from the fly rail area and automated from the deck, assist stage management with the updating and maintaining of show-related paperwork, assist actors with changing costumes.
- Following performances, participate in the following post-show duties that may include (but are not limited to): post-show checks of all scenic and prop items, participate in the repair and maintenance of scenic, prop, or costume items, laundry of costumes.
Ideal Candidate Attributes:
- Ability to work in supervised and unsupervised situations.
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to consistently reproduce tests and their results.
Ideal Candidate Skills:
- A basic knowledge of theatre and, in-particular, the backstage environs.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic sewing skills and laundry skills (for those assigned to Wardrobe crew).
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- Demands and working conditions will vary depending on the department the Run Crew member works within (deck, wardrobe, spotlight operator, etc.).
- Lifting 25 pounds
- Occasional long days of 12-14 hours, with breaks.
- Possible working at heights (ladders, staircases, catwalks, etc.)
