Job Description

The Functional Business Analyst will work with members of the Comptroller’s Office and Information Technology Services (ITS) to support, analyze, design, and implement the financial applications and systems. This position serves as the primary liaison between departmental users and ITS, and although this is not considered a technical role, data analysis and report writing experience is an essential part of this position. The Functional Business Analyst identifies organizational strengths and weaknesses and offers strategic solutions and initiatives by staying current with emerging industry best practices. This is an extremely fast paced, varied, cross-functional position requiring the ability to learn new processes on demand, while acting as an additional resource to assume the business analyst role on projects as required. In this role the candidate will work to ensure that projects align with theUniversity, Comptroller’s Office, and Office of Sponsored Accounting strategic goals.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel is required.
  • Proficiency in a reporting tool required with Tableau and/or SQL experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience in a university setting is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting concepts is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Payroll experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all facets of IT projects that impact assigned business area(s).
  • Analysis of the business requirements, translate high-level business requirements into functional specifications for ITS, working with ITS resources required, communicating to stakeholder(s), testing, and implementation.
  • Accountable for identification, documentation, and escalation of risks, defects and issues throughout the project life cycle.
  • Analyzes and performs testing of upgrades, fixes, and the navigation infrastructure supplied by software vendors for functionality and efficiency.
  • Accountable for all aspects of requirements testing (e.g., testing plan, scenarios, documentation, defect management) to ensure minimal production defects.
  • Design and develop test strategies and test plans to ensure all business and technical requirements are met, and ensure appropriate testing procedures are employed.
  • Drafts business case documents, specifications, and flow charting for changes to business processes due to software requirements.
  • Creates and analyzes standard and ad-hoc queries and reports.
  • Reviews and evaluates proposals for new processes and systems to determine operational, functional, and technical feasibility.
  • Analyzes, investigates, and helps develop proposed solutions to business-sponsored initiatives.
  • Formulates, documents, and maintains business processes and procedures.
  • Interfaces with the business areas, customers, partners, vendors, technical staff and project teams to drive value, return on investments and innovative solutions.
  • Provides senior level functional support and analysis for one or more of the university’s ERP application modules.
  • Acts as a strategic partner between the business community and IT development teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex data or transaction issues related to business applications.
  • Maintains and audits system security and acts as the data steward to maintain data integrity.
  • Provides required business and/or subject matter expertise for both project and production related activities. May also participate as a subject matter expert for new strategic programs or initiatives impacting current and existing systems.
  • Assure compliance to require standards and that all necessary approvals have been obtained throughout the project life cycle.
  • Engages successfully in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
