What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gastroenterology (GI) Registered Nurse position at Talent Consultants?
We are seeking an experienced Gastrointestinal (GI) Registered Nurse to deliver high-quality, specialty nursing care. GI RNs are critical members of the care team, responsible for monitoring patients undergoing gastrointestinal diagnostic and interventional procedures, rapidly responding to changes in patient status, and upholding VA standards of care.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based care to patients undergoing GI procedures.
- Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, and evaluate individualized treatment plans.
- Monitor patients closely throughout GI procedures such as:
- Colonoscopy
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
- Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
- Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
- PillCam and manometry studies
- Administer and monitor Moderate Sedation per protocol.
- Perform routine clinical tasks, including:
- Insertion of peripheral IV lines
- Blood collection via venipuncture and from central lines
- Removal of peripheral and central venous catheters under physician direction
- Administration of 12-lead EKGs in response to cardiac symptoms
- Implementation of ACLS protocols in the event of cardiac emergencies
- Maintain accurate documentation in CPRS throughout each shift.
- Follow all infection control protocols, including care of COVID-19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI).
Required Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state.
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing or related field (Masters Degree highly preferred).
- Either:
1 - Complete an accredited course in Intensive Care or GI Lab Nursing, OR
or
2 - Possess at least five years clinical experience in an Intensive Care Unit or other critical care environment
- Certification in Moderate Sedation or equivalent
- Recent prior experience with GI procedures and administration of Moderate Sedation.
- At least three (3) years of experience in an intensive care, critical care, or GI Lab setting.
- Must have practiced in GI specialty within the last six (6) months.
- Current certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA):
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Preferred Qualifications
- CCRN Certification (Acute/Critical Care Nursing) from the AACN Certification Corporation.
- Prior experience caring for COVID-19 positive patients or PUIs.
