Reports to: Language Education Coordinator
Description: The Tampa Bay Rays are seeking a part-time English Language Instructor in Charleston, SC for the 2024 season. This instructor will be responsible for planning and teaching approximately 40-50 one-hour English classes for non-native English-speaking professional baseball players, with class sizes of roughly 3-8 students. Teaching will be conducted in a hybrid format using both Zoom and live teaching at the ballpark. Classes will run between early April through September 2024.
Responsibilities:
- Create and carry out interactive and engaging age-appropriate lesson plans for small groups of students
- Provide thoughtful progress reports and evaluations on each player (student) at the end of the season
- Document and appropriately communicate player tardiness, missed classes, or behavioral concerns
- Complete player reports for athletes being transacted to another affiliate as needed throughout the season
Qualifications:
- Available to work the duration of the minor league championship season and commit to the specific class dates
- Punctuality and flexibility required
- ESL / ESOL / TESOL certification, or equivalent
- Prior experience tutoring in an athletic setting is beneficial but not required
- Spanish proficiency is highly beneficial in this setting, but not explicitly required
