Essential Functions:
- Properly identify medication from stock shelves and count out proper quantity as ordered/outlined in Pharmacy SOP; receive, read, and properly prepare typed prescription labels
- Under supervision of the pharmacist, counsel patients and maintain education literature
- Verify eligibility under various insurance plans and other third party payers; calculate costs for third party payers and those other than nominal fee
- Responsible for answering the phone and properly responding to routine questions, referring those greater than routine to the pharmacist, as appropriate
- With guidance, complete quality control/quality assurance activities; keep various data records
- May initiate and/or receive provider or other care team member communications regarding patient refill authorization requests; pull/replace filed prescriptions for refills; complete other filings
- Abide by Florida Board of Pharmacy law as related to Pharmacy Technicians
- Responsible for maintaining the operations of individual pharmacy locations, including but not limited to daily cash, inventory, supplies and development of peer technicians
- Strict adherence to all HIPAA, Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC), accreditation agency, and State and Federal rules and regulations
General Duties:
- Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of TFHC
- Follow up, as appropriate, with care team members, or patients regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns
- Promote positive public relations with patients, visitors and community
- Maintain good housekeeping practices; by workspaces and surrounding areas to be clean and tidy
- Effectively and efficiently completes all duties, as assigned
Knowledge and Experience:
- Ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word products, including Word, Excel and Outlook; ability to navigate and enter data into electronic health records
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, symbols, phrases and abbreviations; ability to accurately and efficiently complete basic pharmaceutical math calculations
Education, Certification Training and License:
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Pharmacy Technician Certification through an approved technical school, or minimum (6) months experience training/working in a retail or hospital pharmacy
- Current BLS Certification
- Maintain CphT license per State and Federal law, if applicable
