POSITION SUMMARY: The County Computer Science Coordinator organizes and supports the experiences and activities of the high school Computer Science CTE Pathway for all four CCPS high schools in the county.
REPORTS TO: CTA Principal
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of employment, the candidate must:
- Be a current Calvert County Public Schools employee in good standing.
- Meet Maryland State Certification requirements or holds a bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 1 year of successful teaching experience in Computer Science at the high school level.
- Currently assigned to teach a minimum of one course within the HS Computer Science Pathway at the high school level.
- Have demonstrated understanding of the field of Computer Science and the requirements for Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway completion.
- Have demonstrated understanding of the developmental levels of students and best practices for meeting diverse students’ needs.
- Have demonstrated skill in time management, organizational leadership and human relation skills.
- Have demonstrated ability in written and oral communication.
- Have demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, parents and community members.
- Have demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks consistent with those responsibilities listed below.
- Have such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Schedules field trips as available or appropriate for all pathway courses which entails aligning with the course curriculum based on the upcoming school calendar and testing calendar, contacting all locations, setting up dates and times, and transportation for all trips.
- Identifies opportunities for student internship and shadowing experiences by working with community, industry, and business partners. Coordinates opportunities by helping the student with paperwork and communicating with the student and the business partner throughout the internship/shadowing period.
- Organizes guest speakers from outside organizations for students at all four high schools to enhance the student learning experience.
- Collaborates with the District Director for Career and Technology Education as well as the District Secondary Science Supervisor regarding changes and updates to curriculum, driven and informed by industry groups and partners such as the Maryland Center for Computing Education (MCCE). Coordinates in-service opportunities, workshops and updates to curriculum, lessons, and assessments based on information provided by MSDE and MCCE.
- Organizes and coordinates the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) in accordance with guidelines established through MSDE for PACs. The Coordinator is responsible for sending regular communication to the PAC and sharing information from members of the PAC as appropriate with instructional staff. In addition, the Coordinator will schedule and conduct a minimum of three meetings per school year of the PAC, including establishing an agenda and keeping appropriate minutes.
- Plans for and conducts end-of-year program completion celebration for graduating seniors.
- Assists District CTE Director in planning for program-related expenses such as renewal of materials, replacement of equipment, purchase of new equipment, and professional development requirements for program instructors.
- Maintains and participates in meetings related to articulated or transcripted credit agreements with the College of Southern Maryland, including updating curriculum and assessments and ensures dissemination of information regarding available credits to students.
- Serves as part of the district team administering the MCCE grant throughout the duration of the grant.
- At the request of the CTE Director, attends MSDE meetings specific to coordination of the high school Computer Science CTE pathway.
- Assists CTE Director in planning for and administering student enrollment/recruiting efforts.
OTHER DUTIES: Performs related work as required or assigned by the CTA Principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.
UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to a flexible work schedule.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current year Extra Pay for Extra Duty Longevity Pay Schedule.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION: School Year 2025-26

This position remains open until filled. Interviews may begin as early as August 4, 2025. References must be directly related to work experience and must include immediate supervisor.
