What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic Regulator position at Team Elmer's?
Team Elmer's seeks to fill several openings for Traffic Regulators in Traverse City, MI. This position will direct traffic for road construction crews and is responsible to protect the lives of our customers, motorists, fellow employees and themselves on the roadway. Traffic regulators hold a paddle with "Stop" on one side and "Slow" on the other which they use to help indicate to motorists to slow down, stop and pass through the work zone. Traffic Regulators often work in conjunction with other Traffic Regulators. At times, they will use the assistance of two-way radios, orange barrels, cones, vehicle placement, and other devices which they position alongside the roadway.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions.
- Manage day to day work zone set up, maintenance and tear down meeting or exceeding customer, state and company expectations
- Lift, carry, place and assemble traffic control signs in the proper order to manage work zone traffic (lifting may be up to 50 lbs., several times a day).
- Follow company and state guidelines for effective, safe, well-managed work zones.
- Develop superior knowledge of Work Zone Setup and Design and Professional Traffic Regulating responsibilities.
- Provide the highest level of customer service to all customers. This includes on-time arrival and well managed work zones.
- Follow all company, DOT, OSHA, and MiOSHA safety rules.
- Use PPE while on jobsite e.g. hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's license and ability to get Chauffer's license within first 30 days of hire.
- Clean driving record for past 5 years.
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
- Ability and willingness to learn and understand your role on the team.
- Ability to work long hours standing and perform repetitive lifting, carrying, climbing and walking. Repetitive lifting could be 50 or more pounds at any one time.
- Ability to be flexible and work long hours (10 hours a day at times) and 5-6 days a week in all environmental conditions.
- Good work ethic, punctuality and alertness.
- Ability to follow all company, DOT, OSHA, and MiOSHA safety rules.
