What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specimen Processor position at Tech Observer?
Contract – 6 Months with a possibility of extension
Description:
The Specimen Processor enters all patient demographic and testing information into the laboratory information system and prepares patient blood samples for the analytical phase. This is an in-person role in a clinical laboratory setting.
Schedules available:
- Wednesday-Sunday, 9 am-5:30 pm
- Tuesday-Saturday 9/9:30 am-5:30/6 pm
- Thursday-Sunday 8 am-6 pm
Job Responsibilities:
- Accurately and efficiently complete data entry of patient info and test order into the system.
- Handle patient blood samples. Verify that samples are labeled with the correct patient identifiers, are the correct sample type, and are within stability for the requested test(s).
- Identify and flag any discrepancies or issues that will impact testing and/or reporting
- Pipette blood samples into aliquots of appropriate volume and sample type for their respective tests.
- Run automated aliquoting equipment.
- Archive samples for storage and organize sample batches for testing.
- Prepare batches of samples for send-out testing.
- Assist with other department tasks as needed: scanning test requisitions, troubleshooting “problem” orders, organizing sample archives, etc.
- Other lab assistant duties as needed.
- Adhere to all quality and safety standards, as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
- Work closely and communicate with other lab associates to complete daily activities efficiently.

- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to accurately follow protocols and compliance guidelines
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Must demonstrate flexibility in adapting to process changes
- Ability to type 55WPM preferred
