Sr. Manager of Quality Assurance
Primary Responsibilities
The Senior Manager of Quality Assurance will lead and manage a team responsible for ensuring compliance with quality management systems, handling customer-related quality matters, and overseeing material testing laboratories. This role is also accountable for corrective action management, material certification processes, and coordination of both customer and third-party audits.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment, fostering a zero-injury culture and ensuring safety accountability across the team
- Ensure laboratory practices and testing methods align with customer and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, AS13100, ASTM)
- Lead Quality Management Reviews: schedule, facilitate attendance, and document outcomes to fulfill accreditation requirements
- Maintain and oversee the Quality Manual, ensuring responsibilities are assigned and executed accordingly
- Act as the Management Representative for the site’s Quality Management System
- Lead or assign leadership for internal and external quality audits
- Manage responses to customer quality surveys and inquiries
- Ensure timely resolution of customer issues and drive closure of quality-related concerns
- Oversee the approved supplier list and execution of supplier audits
- Serve as the owner of the temporary instruction system
- Ensure governance of core quality system components such as calibrations, gage R&Rs, SOPs, CARs, and FMEAs
- Own the corrective action process and manage specification review
- Represent the organization during customer, supplier, and third-party quality audits
- Provide direction, coaching, and training to direct reports while promoting professional development
- Conduct performance reviews, goal setting, and regular coaching
- Lead talent reviews and contribute to leadership succession planning
- Identify and develop high-potential talent while addressing underperformance
- Ensure required round robin and proficiency testing (PTP) obligations are fulfilled
- Continuously build knowledge of testing, quality, and operations systems to support laboratory operations and recommend process improvements, including evaluation of new analytical technologies
- Communicate performance expectations clearly to team members and articulate customer and industry quality requirements across departments
- Maintain and update SOPs and quality documentation in accordance with accreditation changes
- Use statistical analysis to evaluate data and quantify capabilities
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering (required)
- Training or certification in quality standards (preferred)
- Prior experience with AS9100 (preferred)
Relevant Work Experience
- Minimum of 10 years in a supervisory or managerial role within a production or manufacturing environment
- Direct experience with aerospace quality systems (AS9100, NADCAP) is essential; familiarity with other accreditations is a plus
- Demonstrated success in continuous improvement initiatives
- Experience leading teams across multiple sites or business units
- Strong ability to manage complex, cross-functional quality issues
- Proficiency with ERP and MES systems to validate product quality, conduct data reviews, and ensure fulfillment of order requirements
