Job Summary

Texas Research Institute (TRI) Austin is a small business with a 35-year history in applied materials science research and development for government and private industry. The Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) division designs instrumentation, software analysis toolsets, and inspection techniques in the support of materials science-based research. Our firm seeks a mechanical engineering technician to support laboratory activities in a multi-disciplinary and intellectually stimulating environment.

Primary Responsibilities / Job Functions

  • Operation of servo-hydraulic load frames
  • Operation and maintenance of microscopes (SEM and optical)
  • Operation of different inspection technologies using existing procedures
  • Experience with mechanical component installation, assembly, and disassembly
  • Document progress and activities and summarize to project managers as required
  • In-Person position

Requirements

Skills the NDE group values include:

  • Basic experience using MS Office applications such as Word, Excel, etc.
  • Preparation of microscope specimens
  • Troubleshooting mechanical components and basic electronics
  • Experimentation and hands-on experience
  • Independent learning

The ability to acquire and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance is mandatory for this position. For additional information, see:

Funding for this position is provided by U.S. Government DoD contracts. Funding is expected to continue but is subject to change due to contract turnover and renewal.

Graduation from a post-secondary program with relevant experience or other related mechanical technology field is desired. An equivalent combination of work-related experience, training and education would be considered.
