Description
The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive and strategic Capital Campaign fundraising program to advance the long-term vision and fundraising goals to support future agency operations and achieve growth. Works closely with external consultants, the Capital Campaign team, and the various committees to achieve the fundraising capital goals.
Oversees and provides advice and support as needed to the Director of Development. The Chief Development Officer participates as a member of the agency's senior leadership team.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Create and implement a successful capital campaign in support of The Action Center’s strategic growth initiative.
- Create, implement, and oversee a Capital Campaign plan to meet strategic plan goals for the long-term financial viability and stability of the organization
- Serve as the agency's point person for the Campaign. Provide oversight and leadership regarding all aspects of the campaign throughout the agency
- Implement identification, cultivation, and stewardship activities that strengthen long-term relationships with current and new donors, and lead to support for the Capital Campaign
- Leads and manages the Capitol Campaign development team members, setting goals, providing feedback and coaching, evaluation of performance, and direction for professional development.
- Provide weekly, monthly, and ad hoc status reports to the CEO including pending and successful solicitation efforts, actual to-budget revenue goals, and other reports as needed
- Collaborate with CEO to determine prospects for cultivation as well as identify and respond to potential new funding sources
- Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors to raise five-figure gifts
- Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board with their solicitations (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and assist with donor communications)
- Provide direction for the development and Implementation of an effective digital and social media strategy specific to the Campaign
- Ensure all funds raised are accounted for, donor information is accurately recorded in the donor database, secure controls are in place, and records are routinely reconciled with the Finance department
- Oversees the Director of Development, providing advice, resources, and support as needed through the transition and beyond.
- Represent the agency in the community and establish strong relationships with, community organizations, churches, businesses
- Participates as a member of the agency senior leadership team.
- Attend agency events, including seasonal programs

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree or certification preferred
- Five years of nonprofit fundraising experience at a management level, leading high-performing teams with a demonstrated ability to secure individual and major gifts and meet objectives
- Must be a skilled fundraiser, an exceptional communicator, and a person who works collaboratively with and through others to achieve success
- Must work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with prospects, and demonstrate successful navigation of prospect relationships
- Experience with all aspects of a development department, including, but not limited to, annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, sponsorships, endowments, direct mail, corporate giving, donor development (moves management), grant funding and marketing and communications
- Experience establishing department budgets along with a strong understanding of financial documents such as balance sheets and profit and loss statements
- Skilled in using a donor database, prospect research, and other wealth screening tools to aid the moves management process
- Exceptional writing and speaking skills and the ability to compel individuals to action
- Must be organized, prepared, detail-oriented, and follow through on commitments
- Ability to inspire prospects and successfully engage them in our vision and mission
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate professionalism and warmth when interacting with the donor community, staff, volunteers, partners & others
- Must adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate an empathetic disposition and perseverance, and convey sensitivity to the needs of donors
- Exceptional relationship and trust-building, communication, listening, and personal engagement skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with thoroughness, accuracy, timeliness, professionalism and a positive spirit
- Creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial mindset and leadership style
- Strong computer skills including, Google, MS Office, spreadsheets, databases, email, and internet
- Commitment to the Action Center Capital Campaign fundraising initiative. This is the signature fundraising model for the agency.
- Familiarity with eTapestry or similar donor software program preferred
SUPERVISORY
This position has direct reports, and may also work closely with identified marketing and annual development team members as needed.
PERSONAL CONTACTS AND PURPOSE
Works with staff, donors, board of directors, community leaders, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders to fundraise and build support for program services and the mission of the agency.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work involves the normal physical activity associated with a development department office environment which includes event-related activities such as lifting and carrying as well as off-site set-up/tear down of tables and displays.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is generally performed in an office environment, but may include work at off-site events, including set-up/tear down of tables and displays.
