What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician, Facilities position at The Arc Of Union County?

Summary: Under the guidance of the Facilities Maintenance Director or designate, this position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Arc facilities and grounds. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for completion of repairs as assigned, inspection of facilities, implementation of preventive maintenance programs, and completion of maintenance requirements in the areas of plumbing, painting, carpentry, HVAC and electrical repair. This position will require significant physical exertion such as but not limited to digging, lifting heavy material, climbing and snow removal. This position may also be assigned facility and grounds maintenance tasks including but not limited to cleaning and maintaining a sanitary environment in and around all Arc facilities to mitigate the spread of germs and surface viruses.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Make repairs in the facilities as required or assigned, including plumbing, painting, and carpentry and electrical repairs. Assure that all agency equipment and machinery is properly maintained according to safety procedures and manufacturers recommendations.
  • Keep entranceways and driveways of facilities clear of snow and ice (salt and clear areas required for entry and egress).
  • Complete all assignments in a timely and cost-effective manner and within the expectations and standards of the Facilities Maintenance Director or designate.
  • Oversee outside repair services and or cleaning services as assigned.
  • Maintain tool and parts inventory and assure that all equipment is appropriately maintained and safely utilized.
  • Complete all required documentation relative to position responsibilities and assignments as required.
  • Respond to emergency calls outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Paint, remodel, and refurbish areas as needed.
  • Repair, maintain/monitor all equipment and amenities.
  • Change of all filters for HVAC as required.
  • Prepare classrooms for incoming classes; remove or rearrange furniture for events or classes, as needed.
  • Assure timely, rotational, periodic Preventative Maintenance Inspections, HUD Unit Inspections, and timely interventions. Prepare and submit to supervisor accordingly.
  • Remove and properly dispose of all recyclable materials.
  • Change light bulbs, interior and exterior, as needed.Maintain exterior property, including assistance with snow removal.
  • Assist with display and or other Program seating set-ups to include
  • Furniture installs/removals.
  • Basic daily assignments of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Compliance with state, federal and OSHA and related regulations, as well as with agency safety regulations.
  • Complete monthly site (building or house) review and report to supervisor accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent
  • Working knowledge of home repairs is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of light carpentry, plumbing and electrical repair. Demonstrated successful work history. Roving mechanic experience a plus.

This position operates in an indoor and or outside fieldwork setting where exposure to weather elements, dirt, and dust, unpleasant smells, and/or loud noises are possible indoor temperature fluctuation on occasion.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: verbally communicate with others, maintain a stationary position (standing and sitting), move/traverse, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time, lift up to 10 lbs, maneuver an occupied wheelchair, (navigate a Hoyer lift and or drive a 6 person passenger van - depending on the position).
