Library Page
The City of Falls Church is recruiting for a temporary 10 hour/week library page at the Mary Riley Styles Library. This is routine work and includes basic clerical duties which are performed under supervision of library staff. All library pages are part of the Library Circulation Department.
Responsibilities:
- Shelving books and other library materials according to the Dewey Decimal System and alphabetically;
- Shifting, straightening, re-shelving, and shelf reading of materials;
- Limited public service including directional questions as required;
- Cleans books and shelves;
- Collects book drop as necessary;
- Check in materials as necessary;
- Identifies damaged materials on shelf and during the check-in process to be evaluated by selectors;
- Assists with collection inventory;
- Assists with curbside deliveries;
- Performs related tasks as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age;
- Able to pass a brief shelving quiz related to different organizational sections of the library;
- Able to accurately sort using the Dewey Decimal System and alphabet to shelve books accordingly;
- Some experience with the procedures, practices and equipment of a public library;
- Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- Good communication skills and detail oriented;
- Self-starter with good organizational skills;
- Able to work independently;
- Demonstrates customer service skills;
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Library staff and patrons.
Hours: A few short shifts each week, between two to four hours on weekdays/evenings and on Saturdays or Sundays, depending on Library staffing requirements; total of 10 hours per week.
Salary: $15.30 per hour, no benefits.
