Description
Diagnoses and treats individuals with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides direct psychiatric services through the comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment of individuals on a daily basis.
- Leads scheduled case conferences. Assures clinicians receive appropriate clinical supervision and direction.
- Completes assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharges, and other clinical and administrative documents in accordance with agency, managed care, and licensing requirements and standards. Regularly checks to ensure that content, signatures, credentials, dates, times, service types, and legibility meet standards.
- Reviews and approves treatment plans.
- Provides ongoing clinical services, individual psychotherapy and or family therapy to assigned cases.
- Provides urgent or emergency medical and/or psychiatric services as needed.
- Provides direct support and clinical intervention and/or identify key individuals that can provide direct and immediate support in crisis situations.
- Orders appropriate laboratory tests. Reviews results in timely manner and arranges follow-up as needed.
- Provides and documents medication education and side-effect monitoring.
- Attends and completes trainings and seminars per departmental, agency, managed care and regulatory requirements. Requirements for specific training courses and/or hours of training must be met within designated time frames. Submits verification of course completion to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments through review of literature and periodicals, attendance at appropriate seminars and conferences and consultation with specialists.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Psychiatrists have delegated authority to provide clinical supervision to clinicians and nursing staff in assigned programs.
May provide direct supervision to Fellows, students, and physician extenders (PAs, CRNPs).

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Medical Doctor with valid PA license. Must have completed an ACGME accredited psychiatric residency training program. Board eligible or Board certified.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software to access and complete web based training and performance appraisals. Must be able to use MS Word to complete electronic forms.
