The John Cooper School is currently seeking an Upper School Science Teacher in Physics.

The John Cooper School, located in The Woodlands, TX, on a beautiful 40-acre campus with a total enrollment of 1,300 students, is an independent, coeducational college preparatory day school serving students in Prekindergarten through Grade 12. The Upper School (Grades 9-12) is a dynamic, caring, and collegial environment that fosters curiosity and joy in our learners.

The John Cooper School’s mission is to provide a challenging education in a caring environment to a diverse group of select students, enabling them to become critical and creative thinkers, effective communicators, responsible citizens and leaders, and lifelong learners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Teach physics courses (4 or 5 sections) in the US Science Department. There is a need for the ability to teach a variety of levels in physics, and specific courses assigned will be a function of departmental need and candidate’s expertise.
Advisor to a small group of Upper School students.

Requirements and Necessary Skills :

Strong commitment to students’ progress, success, and social-emotional well-being

Commitment to student-centered pedagogies and authentic assessments

Knowledge of current best practices in Upper School education

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and desire to approach planning and innovation in a team environment

Model lifelong learning for students with an openness to and enthusiasm for learning and professional growth

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues

Strong organizational skills

A bachelor’s degree in science education or related field; Master’s degree preferred

Minimum of three (3) years applicable classroom teaching experience; independent school experience preferred
