As a public fundraising leader and strategist, the Director of Public Sector Fundraising, Latin America Region (hereafter referred to as the “Director”) is responsible for cultivating a robust public funding pipeline and stewarding relationships with public donors including national governments, multilateral agencies, and other public entities operating across the Latin America region (hereafter referred to as “LAR.”).
A key focus of this role is to raise significant new public funding in support of TNC’s 2030 goals and the top LAR priority geographies - Selva Maya and Mesoamerican Reef, Orinoquia, the Amazon Basin, Gran Chaco, Humboldt Current, and Cerrado. The Director promotes a culture of proactive, systematic pre-positioning for public funding, increasing TNC’s win chances and providing space to design new projects that drive transformative systems change in alignment with TNC’s 2030 goals.
This role works collaboratively and independently with global, regional, and country teams to identify and screen funding opportunities, evaluate strategic partnerships, and provide oversight for the proposal development process from drafting through internal approvals. The Director ensures that proposals and partnerships align with conservation priorities, emphasizing equity, sustainability, and impactful implementation. The Director represents LAR’s priorities broadly, accesses the Conservancy’s donor database, and liaises with internal relationship managers and thematic leads / technical experts to share lessons learned and coordinate joint approaches.
The Director also amplifies strategic relationship coordination and management for high-priority public donors by collaborating with Public Sector Entity Relationship Managers (hereafter known as “RMs”). They act as the connective tissue within TNC, supporting RMs across the organization to link up with team members from the LAR region and vice versa, enabling coordinated relationship management and information sharing regarding high-priority public donors.
The Director leads a small regional team of proposal developers that support project design and development; technical writing; and proposal process management. The Director sets and reports against specific and measurable targets, including financial and other targets. They are able to work effectively under pressure and sometimes within tight timelines.
The Director maintains close relationships with TNC colleagues at regional and global levels to secure resources for LAR. They maintain productive connections with regional leadership, the Global Policy and Public Funding team, global thematic teams, and TNC’s Europe team, among others.
The Director reports to the Regional Managing Director and is a member of the regional leadership team.

This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $124.000 – $173.000 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Cultivate and manage a public funding pipeline while stewarding internal and external relationships to advance conservation priorities.
- Raise significant new public funding in support of the 2030 goals, transformative systems change, and the LAR priority Iconic Places.
- Manage a team of professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training, and career development. Establish clear directions and set stretch objectives.
- Promote a culture of proactive, systematic pre-positioning for public funding, including capacity building for LAR BUs on best practices for pre-positioning and public funding strategy.
- Amplify strategic relationship coordination for high-priority public donors by collaborating with RMs, and acting as a connector for RMs to LAR and vice versa to enable coordinated relationship management and information sharing.
- Partner with global functional and technical teams to identify and screen funding opportunities, evaluate strategic partnerships, and facilitate the proposal development process, including drafting, review, and internal approvals.
- Work collaboratively and independently with staff across global, regional, and country teams to develop proposals that prioritize equity, partnerships, and sustainable implementation.
- Track and report on public sector engagement, leveraging TNC systems and databases.
- Develop and administer a department budget and has authority to modify the budget based on changing circumstances. Operate within budget guidelines to ensure sound financial performance.
- Represent TNC at conferences, workshops, and events, and participate in TNC taskforces, committees, and working groups.
- Ensure direct reports are empowered and achieve objectives and support their professional growth.
- Other short-term tasks and projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of related experience, including demonstrated expertise on current and evolving public funding and conservation trends in the LAR region.
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated experience building strong relationships across a matrixed organization and with donors.
- Experience managing and supervising a large multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed virtual team and managing a budget.
- Experience designing, implementing, and directing multiple projects, setting deadlines, and ensuring program accountability, both with and without direct authority.
- Experience communicating complex processes and ideas effectively to a variety of audiences within and outside of an organization.
- Extensive and proven management experience, including the ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage other’s performance.
- Superb communication and presentation skills.
- Experience communicating with and presenting to diverse audiences, including staff, donors, consultants, and external partners.
- Proven technical skills, analytical ability, sound judgment, discretion, and strong operational focus.
- Proficiency with Portuguese.
- Outstanding analytical and project management capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and implement complex proposals and projects in an unstructured, dynamic environment.
- Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiation, diplomacy, and organizational skills.
- Independent and self-motivated individual with the ability to operate effectively in a remote team environment.
