JOB SUMMARY
The receptionist position at NYAPC is a critical role, as the person(s) who serve in this position is the first “face” of the church. Reception staff must have the ability to quickly become familiar with NYAPC ministries and the facility to help direct guests and church members and answer inquiries. Reception staff function as problem solvers, actively working to track down answers to questions, find solutions to problems or concerns, and manage inquiries. Must have the temperament to interact with unhoused and, sometimes, challenging persons who enter the church for Sunday breakfast and worship.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Offer a welcoming and professional presence of hospitality to all guests who come in contact with the church either in person, by phone, or by email.
- Monitor the security cameras to ensure guests are only where they are supposed to be.
- Communicate with NYAPC's contracted security officers via hand held radio to request assistance, as needed.
- Call 911 if a security threat or medical emergency with a guest and assistance is needed. Greet Emergency Personnel and help with crisis management. De-escalate agitated guests or invite them to leave the premises if they are causing harm to others. In case there is a reportable incident in our facility, complete the appropriate incident form and immediately notify the Director of Operations and Administration.
- Monitor the first-floor restrooms and alert Facility Staff if maintenance or cleaning is needed.
- Answer the phone with a welcoming and professional greeting, retrieve messages, transfer calls, take messages, and alert staff of important messages.
- Responsible for maintaining the reception area and mail room, keeping them clean and organized.
- Sort mail and packages and deal with delivery persons as necessary.
- Provide administrative support for pastors as needed.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations and Administration or pastors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's Degree
Prior reception experience
Demonstrated computer skills
Excellent communication skills
Professional appearance and friendly demeanor
Ability to interact well with unhoused community
Must be able to physically move about the first floor
