Job Description
The Custodial Worker 2 complete assigned project work that will assist the Student Life Environmental Services Department in providing a clean and safe environment in and around assigned Student Life Dinning Facilities and Residence Halls, offices and other properties for student residents, guests and staff of The Ohio State University. This position will specialize in project work consisting of hard floor surface refinishing, hard floor maintenance and special cleaning, carpet cleaning, and upholstery cleaning as well as responsible for day-to-day cleaning and other housekeeping duties involved with special dining operations; cleans rooms, break rooms, dining facility areas, offices and public areas; cleans most flat surfaces, furniture, windows, vents, and light fixtures; may count, issue, and receive linen; operates basic electrical cleaning equipment; maintains floors and carpets; moves furniture; removes trash; clears snow; cleans building entrances and walkways; reports any damage or theft discovered in work area; may be asked to respond to emergencies; climbs ladders and scaffolding; typical hours will be 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. with the understanding that hours and schedules for this position may vary; weekend and holiday work is required; This operation functions 7 days a week; this position is required to travel between multiple facilities basis on business needs; this position will be may be required to work in any Environmental Services department/building from district to district per operational needs; The Custodial Worker 2 must successfully complete and pass the CMI Basic Module training and exam during their probationary period-failure to do so may result in probationary removal.
Minimum Education Required
Per Classified Civil Svc Specs or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications
Required: Per CCS specifications; Six months in Custodial Worker 1 title or equivalent experience; documentation of successful completion of department specific, advanced custodian certification testing (examples include Cleaning Management Institute, 3M(TM), S.M.A.R.T. Program, or other certification program recognized in the cleaning industry as reputable); ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide whole numbers and to read and write common vocabulary plus.
Desired: Experience (1 year) of institutional or large facility cleaning; experience (1 year) in operation of carpet extractor, floor burnisher/buffer, walk behind or ride-on auto scrubber, and/or various other types of cleaning equipment; ability to lift and/or move furniture; ability to lift 25 to 75 pounds.
