What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodial Worker position at City of Dublin?

The City of Dublin is accepting applications for a 2nd Shift Custodial Worker. This position works alone or as part of a crew, engages in physical labor that includes cleaning of various municipal buildings and associated grounds using a variety of cleaning equipment and supplies; set-up and tear down of classrooms; and, on occasion, clearing of sidewalks of snow, ice, leaves or other debris in all types of weather conditions. Activities performed require light to heavy manual labor. Hours are Monday - Friday, 4pm - 12am, with occasional overtime.

Given the nature of this classification’s duties/responsibilities, it has been designated as Non-Exempt under the governing Fair Labor Standards Act regulations and, therefore, is entitled to formal overtime compensation and/or formal compensatory time.


Essential Functions: 

Operates a variety of motorized vehicles and specialized mechanical and/or electronic equipment (i.e. floor cleaning equipment such as: vacuums, auto scrubbers and buffers; no touch cleaning systems; power sprayers, leaf blowers, snow blowers) utilized to clean offices and other areas of municipal buildings and associated grounds.
 
Maintains equipment and ensures equipment is in good operating order through regular inspections. Conducts inventory of supplies and material and informs supervisor of any supply needs.
 
Performs cleaning of buildings and associated grounds that includes activities such as cleaning and sanitizing restroom areas (ie. sinks, urinals, toilets, walls, mirrors, and partitions); maintaining supplies in restrooms (i.e. filling soap and paper dispensers); sweeping, waxing floors; dusting and cleaning furniture and upholstery; washing walls, windows, and doors; picking up litter, trash and recycling; and empting waste/recycling receptacles.
 
Sets up and tears down meeting and class rooms; transports equipment and supplies to/from work areas. Moves office furniture, tables, chairs, voting machines, and other equipment as necessary.
 
On occasion, clears sidewalks and entrances of snow, ice, leaves and other debris.
 
Ensures proper utilization of safety precautions; including proper barricades and signage when cleaning floors; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
 
Must continuously and consistently demonstrate the initiative and responsibility to work in an efficient and productive manner with or without direct supervision.  

Supervisory Responsibilities: 
None Minimum Qualifications: 
High School degree or GED equivalent; Experience preferred in performing custodial/janitorial tasks.
 
Ability to carry out simple instructions; learn and implement safety practices and procedures; work in isolation or cooperate with co-workers in group projects.
 
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work to which assigned.
 
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and can utilize computer software to complete and understand work orders
 
Physical Requirements: 
Physical strength, agility, and endurance to perform all essential functions.
 
Ability to move, lift, and otherwise transfer equipment and supplies manually weighing up to 50 pounds and exceeding 50 pounds with mechanical assistance.
Ability to use the necessary tools, supplies and specialized equipment.
 
Ability to operate a variety of light and medium motorized vehicles.
 
Ability to demonstrate dexterity in the use of hands and feet.
 
Ability to work out-of-doors in a variety of climatic conditions (rain, snow) with a range of temperature conditions (hot, cold) on streets with a heavy volume of vehicular traffic during daylight and night hours.
 
Necessary Special Requirements: 
Possession of a valid Ohio Driver’s License.    
 
Other Requirements: 
Regular attendance, as governed by and in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, procedures and laws, is regarded as an essential requirement of this classification.
 
Compliance with training directives established by supervisory/managerial personnel.
 
Adherence to all applicable Federal and State safety laws, rules, and regulations and City safety policies/procedures.
 
Ability to report to work during call in during snow removal operations and emergency situations. This may require working irregular shifts.  Core Competencies:
