Introduction
The Planet Group is seeking a Backend Engineer to join a high-impact, remote-first team focused on leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) to classify and structure massive content datasets. This team is building a scalable system to categorize various forms of user-generated content using state-of-the-art LLM techniques, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). If you're a backend developer with production-level LLM experience, strong Go and Python skills, and a desire to work on high-scale systems, this is a rare opportunity to join a fast-moving team at the forefront of AI-driven automation.
Required Skills & Qualifications

- Proven hands-on experience with LLMs, including prompt engineering, automation workflows, and multi-stage RAG pipelines
- Strong programming skills in Python and Go (Golang)
- Experience working with distributed systems, microservices, and high-throughput environments
- Deep familiarity with AWS or Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Redis
- Ability to debug large systems at scale and contribute across the full development cycle (design, build, test, deploy)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in a remote-first environment
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously and unblock yourself without heavy oversight
- Experience with modern software engineering practices including:
- CI/CD
- A/B testing
- Unit/integration/E2E testing
- Code reviews and technical documentation
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Background in high-scale consumer platforms or large enterprise tech (e.g., fintech, social, data platforms)
- Experience planning, managing, and estimating project timelines
- Past involvement in content classification or information retrieval systems
- Startup-friendly mindset: proactive, creative, and comfortable with ambiguity
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Build automated systems to classify and tag massive volumes of unstructured content using LLMs
- Develop backend pipelines that utilize multi-round RAG, vector search, and semantic retrieval techniques
- Partner with cross-functional teams (Product, Data Science, Engineering) to define and launch new classification workflows
- Architect durable, observable, and fault-tolerant backend services that scale with user growth
- Manage and iterate on experiments, including A/B tests and performance tuning
- Write clean, testable code in Python and Go, with strong documentation and observability
- Continuously improve the team’s ability to deliver value quickly with high technical standards
Company Benefits & Culture
- 100% Remote role with flexible working hours (3 hours PST overlap required)
- Work on state-of-the-art LLM, AI, and content automation challenges
