The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for Domestic Violence Resident Victim Advocate for the Pasco County Domestic Violence Program located in Hudson, Florida. This is a full time position working approximately 35 hours a week.
Key responsibilities:
- Orients new clients to the program, helps survivors with crisis counseling and safety planning, and prepares case records to facilitate case management; records daily services.
- Ensures house guidelines are understood and followed; records incidents and notifies supervisor of any special circumstances or unusual problems; ensures security of facility and clients.
- Ensures that all rooms are in proper order and clean before arrival of new residents; checks fire equipment and ensures proper working order.
- Performs housekeeping duties as needed to ensure cleanliness of the shelter.
- Distributes towels, linens, personal hygiene items, or other items as needed by residents.
- Assists domestic violence hotline callers and provides telephone counseling, safety planning, and information and referral services.
- Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective action in accordance with established policy and procedure.
- Attends at least 16 hours of continuing education in domestic violence to maintain State of Florida Core Competency Certification.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. and AND
- One year experience performing social service work preferred OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
- Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
- Work is performed in a shelter facility where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
