Job Summary
Receives, sorts, pricesand prepares donated items for display in the store; determinessuitability and pricing of items based on established standards;
assistsin maintainingthe orderliness and cleanliness of the store and sorting room area.
Sorting Room Responsibilities (50%) Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc.
- according to the category and condition; selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate areafor further sorting and / or pricing;
- discards items in accordance withestablished items with specially coded tickets and / or prices in accordance withestablished procedures;
- hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes items in boxes and marks boxes; accordingly,assistsin transporting boxes to appropriate storagearea;
lifts and carries items to the appropriate destinationfor further processing, storage or displaying in store.Prepares non-suitable clothes for the baler.
- Sorting Room Orderliness andCleanliness Responsibilities (50%) Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tablesand work and arranges items in the store as directed;
- checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintainedand displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and / or rearranges stock as directed;
- returns items to theproper location after customers have all display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows and mirrors;
ensures that the store is maintainedin a clean and inviting manner.
Other Responsibilities : Inspects donated itemsto ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures.
Assistscustomers in carrying purchased / donated items in / out of the store.Performs other duties as assigned.
Materials andEquipment : Hand Truck; General Office Equipment.
Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities : Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
Educationand Experience : High school diploma or preferred,andOne year experience working in a warehouse preferred,
or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skillsand abilities.
Certifications : None.
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some are usually performed standing. Standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.
Moderate physical effort requiredassociated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to heavy objects(up to50 lbs.).
Working Conditions : Work isperformed in a normal warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changedin weatheror discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
