Child Food Monitor

Summary
Effective Child Food Monitoring ensures family day care homes and daycare centers operate according to Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines and ensures accurate records are available to justify reimbursement of properly served meals. The Child Food Monitor is required to spend enough time at each family day care home and daycare center to review the CACFP operations, accurately identify problems and recommend effective solutions.
Essential Functions
As an official representative of the Southeast Tennessee Human Resource Agency, SETHRA, the Child Food Monitor is responsible for:
· Planning and preparing for assigned reviews;
· Assessing whether the home or center has corrected problems noted in previous review(s);
· Ensuring that providers maintain required documentation and records, including:
√ Documentation of licensing or approval;
√ Number of meals served, by type;
√ Menus;
√ Attendance records; and
√ Complete and current enrollment forms
√ Reimbursable Receipts (centers)
· Reconciling any discrepancies in meal counts and attendance or enrollment records;
· Conducting a reconciliation of the daycare facilities’ home’s meal counts with enrollment and attendance records for a five-day period;
· Assigning corrective action for problems encountered;
· Informing the agency about problems found in daycare facility and ensuring that corrective action is completed and documented;
· Preparing complete reports of reviews and ensuring that copies of the reports are included in an official file for each home or center;
· Ensuring compliance with basic health and safety requirements and immediately reporting to the appropriate authority any serious problems observed;
· Ensuring compliance with the child/staff ratio requirements and immediately reporting to the appropriate authority any violations observed;
· Revisiting facilities to conduct follow-up reviews as necessary; and ensuring that the meals claimed are served to enrolled children regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability.
Some daycare providers and staff may not be familiar with CACFP and its meal pattern requirements, or they may not know how to keep records. During the monitor’s reviews, the monitor might find it necessary to explain the importance of following the CACFP rules and discuss how a daycare’s operations can be improved. This type of ongoing training is a basic responsibility of each monitor and it is important to document the provider training in the monitors report.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
Visits homes and centers for monitoring of program services.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position, variable hours.
Travel
Travel required to Family Day Care Homes and daycare centers for monitoring.
Requirements, Qualifications
· Minimum of 18 years of age.
· Pass background check.
· Possess and maintain valid Tennessee Class D Drivers’ license.
· Provide transportation for job travel.
· Proof of automobile insurance.
