Job Summary
The Public Safety Officer will provide service and information to students, employees and visitors, will enforce the rules and regulations of the U.T. System Administration or an institution of The University of Texas System pertaining to the operation and parking of vehicles on university property and will help safeguard property of the U.T. System Administration or an institution of The University of Texas System.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Writes non-criminal reports.
- Checks permits on vehicles entering and parked on campus or System Complex.
- Directs flow of traffic and parking of cars when needed.
- Issues parking permits when needed, and issues University parking violation citations.
- Patrols buildings and grounds to check for fires, water leaks, potential security and safety hazards and general building security.
- Reports all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity.
- Ensures all personnel entering the System Complex or a campus are properly identified when appropriate.
- Provides directions to locate buildings and offices and other general information to visitors.
- Patrols buildings and grounds on foot or in vehicle to provide security and prevent crime.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education/Experience

American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification or able to obtain certification in 6 months.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive a university owned and/or leased motor vehicle. - May accept a combination of education and experience.
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
- Must be able to provide creditable testimony in a court of law.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
