JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervisor of the Lead Direct Care Counselor, the Direct Care Associate will be responsible for providing direct supervision and care of a diverse population of individuals at The Warming Shelter facility. This includes making sure that individuals are not under the influence of any drugs/alcohol inside the facility which includes any weapons. Duties include supervision of individuals in accordance with facility rules and regulations, crisis intervention, facility maintenance, promotion of a therapeutic environment, and data collection. This position will ensure interactions, interventional and environments at The Warming Shelter are trauma informed and emphasize the physical and emotional safety of individuals and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Background in social work or psychology with experience working in a shelter environment is desired but not required; or experience working with high-risk homeless population; or high school diploma or equivalent.
- Able to connect and work effectively with a diverse, resistant adults and family homeless population
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement and set clear and appropriate boundaries with individuals
- Knowledge and understanding issues of homeless adult and family population, mental health issues, and substance abuse among high-risk adults
- Provide services that are trauma informed, appropriate, and effective
- Problem solving skills (multi-tasking, assessment, organization, and prioritization)
- Team orientated and able to coordinate with various volunteers and staff
- Understanding of the provision of and commitment to trauma informed care
- Must pass both state and federal background checks
JOB DUTIES
All Direct Care Associate positions will be responsible for performing the general work duties listed:
Documentation
- Accurately document admission record
- Collect and maintain accurate data on an ongoing basis
- Document relevant and significant events that occur during the shift in the Communication Log
- Maintain clear and effective communication with other staff regarding clients
- Limited case management responsibilities
- Work to ensure confidentiality
Client Supervision
- Provide milieu supervision and work to ensure the safety of the individuals and their environment
- Assure that individuals maintain cleanliness of the shelter environment
- Provide direction and support to individuals on the completion of assigned tasks and other milieu activities
- Maintain a welcoming presence; support individuals who come into the shelter
Assessment
- Collect and record necessary intake information to reflect the needs of the individuals
- Assess appropriateness of client admission to shelter and forward to Director for additional follow-up
Case Management
- Additional case management meetings may be required
Crisis Intervention
- Crisis intervention with current clients
- Crisis intervention phone counseling; as needed
Facility Maintenance & Safety
- Ensure walkways and doorways are free of debris and/or snow
- Assist clients with shelter and grounds cleanliness
- Patrol the property as needed
- Ensure the grounds and interior common area is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion
- Support individuals through supervision and model appropriate property maintenance by assisting with issues
WORK SCHEDULE
We are hiring several part-time & full-time shifts. Specific schedules will be determined upon employment offer and fleibility. Please note, as we are open during the winter months, you must be available for half of the winter holidays to work - with holiday pay.
