Summary
The Materials Evaluation Lab Technician I supports TSMD’s laboratories and technical teams with sample preparation, test preparation and execution, data analysis, and project support.
The Materials Evaluation Lab characterizes the microstructure and physical properties of TSMD’s products to support production and engineering goals. Primary characterization methods include optical and scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), X-ray diffraction, hardness, tensile/yield strength testing, and Keyence image analysis. Technicians in the MEL Lab prepare samples, operate test equipment, perform routine equipment maintenance, and interface with the laboratory information management system software. Technicans work with power tools and polishing equipment, as well as acids and solvents in an ISO14001/ISO9001 certified environment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares samples.

Sets up equipment, assemblies, and experiments.

Collects data per work instructions or experimental plans.

Prepares reports with data and analysis.

Supports senior level technicians and engineers with project execution.

Maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Other related duties.
Education
-
High school diploma required, Associates degree in technical field preferred.
Skills and Qualifications

Works under general supervision.

Conducts assigned tasks in a safe manner.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft programs: Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Able to keep detailed notes and well-organized data.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis.

Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
