The Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated and customer service-oriented individual for the position of Sports Official for our basketball, volleyball and flag football leagues. This position is responsible for assisting in the creation & implementation of various programs and services to guests of the Recreation Department. Primary responsibilities include the design, development and/or creation of programs or services, and instruction of skills related to the various programs or services. Implementation of programs and services involves setting up and preparing assigned facility space and equipment, performing light maintenance duties, registration, handling cash, interfacing with participants, coaching, instructing, officiating, scheduling, enforcing department policies and procedures, ensuring safety, and collecting evaluations and patron feedback.
Individuals in this position are responsible for officiating flag football, volleyball, basketball and/or special events at the Breckenridge Recreation Center. Sports Officials are responsible for ensuring the safety of players and participants by calling penalties and rule violations in a timely manner consistent within the appropriate sport's organization rules, (such as the National Federation of State High School Associations (Basketball and/or Flag Football or USA Volleyball) and Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department League/Special Events Rules Manual. Sports Officials are responsible for conducting physical inspections of playing surfaces, goals, nets, timing, scoring devices and surrounding areas to ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition. In addition, Sports Officials review score sheets/make recommendations on player discipline based on player infractions. Sports Officials monitor behavior, play and actions of players before, on court/field during and after the game to maintain safety values, league rules, sportsmanship and general protocol. Rules of play are overseen and/or enforced in a manner reflecting positively on the sports, the facility and the Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department's sports leagues. Additionally, key responsibilities include imparting customer service in a responsible, service-oriented manner that supports a culture of safety, where emphasis on risk management is communicated and contributes positively to the customer experience.

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have High School diploma or GED.
- Must have one (1) or more years of customer service experience.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge (via work history and/or playing experience) of one or more of the following:
- Volleyball
- Flag Football
- Basketball
- Basic CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications are required within 60 days of hire.
- Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) required within 60 days of hire.
- Certification and/or appropriate credentials and proof of study in specialty area of instruction at time of hire.
- One (1) or more years of flag football, volleyball, and/or basketball officiating experience.
- One (1) or more years of customer service experience involving adult sports leagues.
- One (1) or more years of experience playing flag football, volleyball, and/or basketball at the high school or club level.
WORK SCHEDULE
The work schedule for this role varies, but is typically Monday - Thursday. Individuals in this position must be flexible in terms of availability; and may on occasion be required to work other shifts as needed, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
